I am excited to say that I am entering my 32nd year of teaching. I began my time at Martin Luther King Elementary in 1995. Prior to King School, I spent a year and a half as a substitute teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools and neighboring districts, and one year as a kindergarten teacher at Bryant Elementary (also in the AAPS). I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grades. I am excited to begin my third year as a fourth-grade teacher.

Thanks to my experiences of teaching kindergarten through fourth grade, along with helping raise my own four children, I feel quite fortunate to have gained valuable understanding, knowledge, experience, and confidence along the way.

I experienced an interesting and diverse childhood. My father was in the United States Air Force up through my seventh-grade year. We lived in five different states and England. I was born in Maine, my brother was born in Washington, and my sister was born in California. I spent most of my childhood in California, Virginia, and England.  

Following high school I completed degrees at Washtenaw Community College (technology and general education) and Eastern Michigan University (undergraduate-math/science & graduate-reading). Since obtaining my graduate degree I’ve also completed 18 university credits, continued professional development through the AAPS, and renewed my teaching certificate numerous times.

Outside of the classroom, my wife and I enjoy many activities, some of which continue to revolve around our four adult children (ages range from 23 to 29). We enjoy eating out at restaurants, relaxing at Lake Michigan, playing games, and hanging out together.

For myself, I enjoy a wide variety of interests, which is one of many reasons I love teaching elementary school. I enjoy reading, walking, bicycling, fishing, watching movies & videos, gardening, Detroit Tigers baseball, riding my motorcycle, and working on projects around the home. I also find joy in sharing my variety of interests and making connections with the students & families I work with. Being an elementary teacher helps me dabble in many areas. I very much enjoy being an educator!
